Wind River Takes Leading Role in Automotive Consortium

Wind River, along with BMW, Intel, Magneti Marelli, and other founding members, has launched GENIVI. This new association for automotive, consumer electronics, and communication companies will drive the broad adoption of an open-source In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) development platform.

Wind River plays a pivotal role in this consortium by developing, integrating, testing, and contributing key automotive middleware and hardware integration components. These Wind River components enable the automotive and consumer electronics connectivity, multimedia, and performance capabilities of the baseline GENIVI platform.

GENIVI’s vision is to create an open software architecture that scales across IVI product lines and generations. To this end, GENIVI is working to align common industry requirements, create a reference platform, and drive the formation of an open-source IVI development community. The GENIVI platform will establish a foundation from which automotive manufacturers and suppliers can create differentiated products.

GENIVI will benefit the automotive industry by accelerating the pace of development for new and automotive applications, reducing development efforts for open-source technology, and allowing new business models to emerge in the IVI market.

Wind River will base our commercial automotive solutions on the GENIVI platform, offering commercial support and software systems integration services to help automotive manufacturers and their suppliers develop, customize, and support differentiated IVI products.
