LiMo Foundation and Wind River
The LiMo Foundation was launched in January 2007 by Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung, and Vodafone, leading worldwide OEMs and carriers, to foster the creation of a Linux-based mobile platform. The goal of this mobile platform is to help reduce fragmentation and complexity in the mobile handset market while providing a superior, differentiable consumer experience.
Wind River in LiMo
Wind River has joined the LiMo Foundation as a Core Member. LiMo Core Members may vote on issues, be elected to the Limo Foundation Board, participate in Foundation Councils andlead working groups, and ship products using Foundation code. In addition to participating in the Foundation Board, Wind River is an active member of the Architectural and Requirements councils and provides key insight from the commercial Linux perspective.
OEMs creating LiMo-based handsets may select Wind River for their Linux distribution, board support package, and development tools. Wind River also offers mobile handset and Linux expertise through Wind River Professional Services to optimize the Linux kernel for LiMo handsets.
Why Wind River for LiMo Projects
Wind River was the first commercial Linux provider to join LiMo, and as a result of being a Core Member, the only commercial Linux provider represented on the Foundation Board.
More importantly, only Wind River can provide OEMs, carriers, and silicon providers the breadth of open source mobile operating systems and development tools coupled with the depth of open source handset expertise to help ensure a tightly integrated, high performing LiMo handset delivered on time, on budget. Wind River advantages for LiMo projects include:
